Malicious code in @zahlen/checkout-react (npm) 0 The npm package @zahlen/checkout-react version 0.1.1 contains malicious code that executes on every import or require. It uses unicode-escape obfuscation to hide imports of Node.js built-in modules such as child_process, http, https, zlib, and url. The malicious code queries the Ethereum blockchain to resolve a command-and-control (C2) host, then polls this host for commands which it executes on the affected system using child_process.spawn. This allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on any developer machine or CI runner that installs or imports this package. The legitimate React checkout code is used as a cover for the malicious prelude. The C2 infrastructure uses on-chain resolution to enable operator infrastructure rotation without republishing the package.
