A third variant of PamStealer has been identified, distributed through a fake Wavel cryptocurrency wallet application. The malware employs a sophisticated server-side decryption chain using a purpose-built utility called pkgunpack that performs live ECIES key exchange with command-and-control infrastructure, making offline payload decryption impossible. The second stage has been rewritten from Rust to Swift while maintaining PAM-based credential validation. The infostealer targets seventeen browsers including Arc, Zen, Waterfox, and LibreWolf, extracts keychain credentials, collects system fingerprints, and harvests user files including shell history and account photos via Open Directory. Persistence is maintained through four redundant repair mechanisms including LaunchAgent installation, shell hooks, Git hooks, and a local backup tarball, with notification suppression achieved by killing background task management processes. A cryptomining botnet compromised 3,562 Redis servers by exploiting unauthenticated Redis instances using rogue replication to inject cron jobs that deployed XMRig miners. The affected Redis versions range from 2.8.17 to 7.2.0 across various Linux distributions, indicating misconfiguration rather than a software vulnerability. The attacker toolkit, exposed via an open directory, contained exploit source code, campaign logs, and Windows registry hives. Additional attack vectors targeting WordPress, MongoDB, and SSH were included but did not result in confirmed compromises. The operation mined Monero using a wallet linked to the operator's own systems. Meterpreter deployment capabilities were also observed, extending the operator's activity timeline. No known exploits in the wild or vendor patches are documented. Join the discussion | AlienVault OTX General | 09/08/2026, 16:59:09 UTC Added: 09/09/2026, 09:22:16 UTC |
An unpatched zero-day vulnerability dubbed StyleSmuggler affects all current versions of Magento and Adobe Commerce, including 2.4.9, enabling unauthenticated remote code execution. Active exploitation began on September 4th, 2026. The attack operates in two stages: injecting malicious PHP code into Magento's template system using styles properties to evade safeguards, then executing the poisoned code via failed payment emails. Upon successful compromise, attackers deploy a Rust-based backdoor disguised as legitimate system processes (kworker, fc-cache, or chronyd) that connects to command and control servers. The backdoor uses NTP-shaped UDP traffic for C2 communication to evade detection. A second unrelated attacker has also been observed exploiting the same vulnerability to deploy PHP web shells. Affected merchants should deploy immediate mitigation measures, scan for compromise, and temporarily disable GraphQL until an official patch is released. A previously undocumented Linux toolkit has been targeting South Korean automotive and media organizations with minimal detection since early 2025. The campaign employs a HAProxy instance called ted backdoor, compiled within the victim's existing HAProxy version 2.8.12, alongside trojanized versions of crond, agetty, atd, sshd, and polkitd. This sophisticated framework enables remote command execution, malicious script injection into web traffic, credential harvesting, and long-term surveillance. The ted backdoor uses HAProxy's native filter API and internal structures to intercept SSL-decrypted HTTP traffic while maintaining legitimate load balancing operations. Operating alongside are an SSH keylogger, a curl-based RAT with HAProxy health monitoring capabilities, and a deployment stager. The toolkit is attributed with medium confidence to DPRK APTs based on targeting patterns, simple XOR-based encryption schemes, custom substitution ciphers, and C2 infrastructure associated with APT37. A sophisticated supply chain attack campaign has expanded to 471 affected artifacts across npm and PyPI, targeting developers through malicious packages. The campaign uses three distinct delivery methods: executable .pth startup hooks, trojanized native .abi3.so extensions that execute at import time, and a split loader-payload architecture that searches Python's sys.path. Twenty-three newly identified PyPI packages masquerade as bioinformatics tools, AI frameworks, and popular libraries like requests and Flask. The attack deploys heavily obfuscated JavaScript stealers via Bun runtime, harvesting high-value credentials including GitHub tokens, npm registry access, cloud credentials, SSH keys, and CI/CD secrets. The malware employs anti-analysis techniques with fake LLM prompt-injection headers designed to disrupt AI-assisted security scanners, while targeting developer workstations and automated build environments. Socket detected 84 compromised TanStack npm package artifacts modified with credential-stealing malware targeting CI systems, including GitHub Actions. Affected packages like @tanstack/react-router have over 12 million weekly downloads. The malicious versions contain router_init.js, a heavily obfuscated file with daemonization capabilities and environment variable access for GitHub Actions secrets. The compromise exploited GitHub Actions cache poisoning and pull_request_target patterns to extract OIDC tokens and authenticate malicious npm publishes through trusted-publisher bindings. The malware harvests credentials from GitHub Actions, AWS (IMDS, Secrets Manager, SSM), HashiCorp Vault, and Kubernetes, while establishing persistence in Claude Code and VS Code directories. Exfiltration occurs through Session's decentralized P2P network. The campaign includes self-propagation mechanisms that steal npm OIDC tokens and autonomously republish compromised packages. Updates indicate expansion to OpenSearch, Mistr... Join the discussion | AlienVault OTX General | 05/12/2026, 13:55:20 UTC Added: 05/12/2026, 16:51:32 UTC |
A new payload in the TeamPCP arsenal has been discovered, capable of wiping entire Kubernetes clusters. The script uses the same ICP canister as the CanisterWorm campaign, with consistent lateral movement via DaemonSets. However, this variant introduces a geopolitically targeted destructive payload aimed specifically at Iranian systems. The malware checks timezone and locale to identify Iranian systems, deploying privileged DaemonSets across every node in Kubernetes environments. Iranian nodes are wiped and force-rebooted, while non-Iranian nodes receive the CanisterWorm backdoor. The latest variant adds network-based lateral movement, exploiting exposed Docker APIs and using SSH for spread. This development shows TeamPCP's ability to operate at supply chain scale and their willingness to engage in destructive actions. Check Point Research uncovered an ongoing campaign by the Silver Fox APT group exploiting a previously unknown vulnerable driver to evade endpoint protection. The attackers used a Microsoft-signed WatchDog Antimalware driver to terminate protected processes on fully updated Windows systems. A dual-driver strategy ensured compatibility across Windows versions. Following disclosure, the vendor released a patched driver, but attackers quickly adapted by modifying it to bypass blocklists while preserving its valid signature. The campaign delivered ValleyRAT as the final payload, demonstrating sophisticated evasion techniques and highlighting the growing trend of weaponizing signed-but-vulnerable drivers to bypass security measures.
