Technical Analysis

Apache Traffic Server contains a CWE-191 integer underflow vulnerability that can be triggered by a malformed padded HTTP/2 DATA frame. This causes exhaustion of the HTTP/1.1 origin's worker pool, potentially leading to denial of service. The vulnerability affects multiple version ranges from 8.0.0 up to and including 10.2.0. Upgrades to 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1 address this issue.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause denial of service by exhausting the HTTP/1.1 origin's worker pool, impacting availability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity according to the CVSS vector. The CVSS score is 8.6 (high severity), reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and scope change.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Traffic Server to versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1 where the vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated.
