Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS versions prior to 4.34.0 have a vulnerability where the API endpoint POST /api/v1/@apostrophecms/doc/slugTaken allows any logged-in user to check if a slug is in use across all document types and visibility levels without permission filtering. This enables enumeration of slugs for private pages, drafts, and archived content. The issue is fixed in version 4.34.0.

Technical Analysis

In ApostropheCMS before version 4.34.0, the API endpoint POST /api/v1/@apostrophecms/doc/slugTaken accepts a JSON body with a slug and returns a boolean indicating whether that slug is in use. This response does not enforce permission or document type filters, allowing any authenticated user, including editors, to enumerate slugs of private, draft, and archived documents. This constitutes an exposure of sensitive information (CWE-200). The vulnerability is addressed in version 4.34.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated users to discover the existence of private, draft, and archived content by enumerating slugs, potentially exposing sensitive information about unpublished or restricted documents. However, it does not allow modification or deletion of content. The CVSS score is 4.3 (medium severity), reflecting limited confidentiality impact without integrity or availability effects.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ApostropheCMS to version 4.34.0 or later, where this issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
