Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS versions prior to 4.34.0 have a vulnerability where a public REST API using publicApiProjection can allow unauthorized actors to infer sensitive information about excluded searchable or sortable fields. Although the returned data respects projection filters, this side-channel exposure permits targeted inference rather than direct data leakage. The issue is resolved in version 4.34.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112954 describes an information exposure vulnerability in ApostropheCMS, an open-source Node.js content management system. Specifically, versions before 4.34.0 have a flaw in a public REST API type that uses publicApiProjection. This flaw allows attackers to infer values of excluded searchable or sortable fields through search membership and sort ordering oracles. The vulnerability does not result in an unrestricted dump of hidden fields, as returned fields remain filtered by the projection, but it enables targeted inference about sensitive data. The vulnerability is fixed in ApostropheCMS version 4.34.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized actors to infer sensitive information about fields that should be excluded from search or sort results. This exposure is limited to inference rather than direct access or modification of data. There is no indication of impact on data integrity or availability. The CVSS score of 5.3 reflects a medium severity impact with confidentiality loss only.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ApostropheCMS to version 4.34.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated.
