Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: TL-WR940N v6

Description

The TL-WR940N v6 router contains a vulnerability in its RTSP connection tracking module that can lead to a stack-based buffer overflow. The issue occurs when a LAN client initiates a connection to a malicious RTSP server controlled by an attacker. A specially crafted RTSP message may trigger improper memory handling within the kernel module Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in a denial-of-service (DoS) condition or allow remote code execution (RCE), potentially leading to full compromise of the device. This vulnerability can be exploited by an unauthenticated attacker under the device's default configuration.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-12935 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the RTSP connection tracking module of the TP-Link TL-WR940N v6 router. The issue arises from improper memory handling when processing RTSP messages from a LAN client connecting to a malicious RTSP server. Successful exploitation can result in denial-of-service or remote code execution, enabling full compromise of the device. The vulnerability is exploitable without authentication and under default configuration. There is no vendor advisory or patch information available at this time.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability may lead to denial-of-service conditions or remote code execution on the affected router, potentially allowing an attacker to fully compromise the device. The vulnerability is exploitable by unauthenticated attackers within the LAN network under default settings.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid connecting LAN clients to untrusted RTSP servers or disable RTSP connection tracking if possible.
