Description

Apache Syncope contains a code injection vulnerability (CVE-2026-77147) that allows an administrator with sufficient privileges to create a malicious Groovy Command class, bypassing the Groovy security sandbox. This affects versions from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2. Upgrading to versions 4.0.8 or 4.1.3 mitigates this issue.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-77147 is a code injection vulnerability in Apache Syncope where an administrator with Implementations entitlements can inject untrusted code by creating a malicious Groovy Command class in the CommandArgs static implementation. This bypasses the Groovy security sandbox, potentially leading to high confidentiality and integrity impacts. The vulnerability affects Apache Syncope versions 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2. The issue is resolved in versions 4.0.8 and 4.1.3.

Potential Impact

An attacker with administrative privileges for Implementations can execute arbitrary code by injecting malicious Groovy code, leading to a complete compromise of confidentiality and integrity of the system. Availability is not impacted. The CVSS v3.1 score is 6.5 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, and high confidentiality and integrity impacts.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Syncope to versions 4.0.8 or 4.1.3, which contain fixes for this vulnerability. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated in the available data.
