AI-suggested
A patch is available in GitPython version 1.2.0.post0_16 that adds the missing unsafe protocol and option checks to the affected methods. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate these vulnerabilities. The recommended fix involves adding protocol checks to Git.ls_remote, unsafe option checks to Repo.merge_base, and similar checks to IndexFile.move as per existing guard patterns. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
GitPython versions from 0.1.0 up to but not including 1.2.0.post0_16 have three methods that omit critical safety checks for unsafe protocols and options. The ls_remote method does not check URLs for unsafe protocols, allowing remote code execution if the victim's git transport policy permits the 'ext' protocol. The merge_base and IndexFile.move methods forward caller-controlled arguments without proper unsafe option checks, creating latent injection surfaces. These issues were verified on the main branch after the latest release, and a fix is available in version 1.2.0.post0_16.
