Mythic is an open-source command-and-control (C2) framework used by red teams and threat actors. Analysis found 131 unique Mythic C2 hosts exposed on the public Internet, with most using default TLS certificates. These deployments span major cloud providers and are concentrated in the US, Hong Kong, and China. Default artifacts such as TLS certificates with O=Mythic and port 7443 responses enable detection. Some clusters appear to be training environments, while isolated deployments with custom domains and advanced transport methods like Discord and steganography indicate operational use.

A malware campaign uses counterfeit software-download websites impersonating trusted vendors to distribute malicious installers. The activity primarily targets China-based operations of multinational organizations and Chinese-speaking users across healthcare, manufacturing, gaming, technology, logistics, government, and education sectors. Malicious installers deploy payloads that establish persistence, disable security protections, and communicate with attacker-controlled infrastructure. The campaign employs dynamically generated installers with rotating hashes, spoofed vendor pages on .com.cn and .hl.cn domains, and randomized payload staging paths. Follow-on activity includes disabling Windows Defender, deleting shadow copies, neutralizing Windows Update, creating scheduled tasks for persistence, and establishing command-and-control over non-standard ports. Microsoft assesses this activity aligns with publicly reported Silver Fox operations but has not attributed it to a nation-state actor.

Analysis of 4 million dynamic malware reports reveals that 45.32% of malware samples with command-and-control activity establish direct-to-IP (D2IP) connections, bypassing DNS entirely and evading DNS-based security defenses. D2IP traffic accounts for 23.17% of all C2 connection attempts. This behavior is observed across diverse threats including Phorpiex ransomware droppers using hard-coded IP addresses, persistent data exfiltration campaigns employing obfuscated HTTP GET requests, SectopRAT targeting educational institutions with in-browser proxy capabilities, and IoT botnets like Mozi and Boatnet propagating through P2P networks. The research introduces zero trust IP (ZT-IP), a network-level enforcement approach that verifies whether outbound connection destinations were previously sanctioned by DNS responses, effectively blocking malicious D2IP communications that traditional DNS-based security controls cannot detect.

The article details the HollowGraph malware, which abuses Microsoft 365 calendar invites as a covert command-and-control channel using stolen Azure AD credentials. It provides technical insights into the malware's operation, attribution to an espionage group, and practical detection and mitigation strategies focused on monitoring calendar events, Graph API usage, and DNS tunneling.

AdaptixC2 is an emerging open-source post-exploitation framework rapidly adopted by threat actors in APT attacks and ransomware campaigns. Written in Go and C++, it supports Windows, macOS, and Linux with extensive modularity through Beacon Object Files (BOFs). The framework enables diverse command-and-control channels including HTTP/S, TCP, mTLS, DNS, DoH, and SMB with RC4 encryption throughout. It implements sophisticated evasion techniques targeting both network detection systems and endpoint defenses. Despite advanced obfuscation capabilities, network-level detection remains viable through analysis of distinctive communication patterns, header structures, and behavioral indicators. The framework supports credential harvesting via LSASS dumping, LAPS exploitation, and Kerberos attacks, alongside defense evasion through process injection and lateral movement via WinRM and PsExec. Combined NDR and EDR solutions provide effective multi-layered detection coverage against AdaptixC2 operations across network ...

A compromised Joomla website displayed suspicious product links unrelated to the business. Investigation revealed heavily obfuscated PHP code injected at the top of index.php that contacted external command-and-control servers to receive instructions and manipulate content. The malware acts as a remote loader, assembling strings from two-character chunks to evade signature-based detection. It contacts primary C2 cdn.erpsaz.com and fallback cdn.saholerp.com, sending server fingerprint data and receiving dynamic instructions. Based on responses, it redirects visitors, injects spam content, or serves fake SEO pages to search engines. This approach allows attackers to control compromised sites remotely without modifying local files again, enabling dynamic spam injection, visitor redirection, and search engine manipulation while remaining undetected for extended periods.

A coordinated campaign is targeting developers through malicious repositories disguised as legitimate Next.js projects and technical assessment materials. The attack uses multiple entry points that lead to runtime retrieval and local execution of attacker-controlled JavaScript, transitioning into staged command-and-control. The campaign employs three main execution paths: Visual Studio Code workspace automation, build-time execution during application development, and server startup execution via environment variable exfiltration and dynamic remote code execution. The attack chain includes a Stage 1 C2 beacon for registration and a Stage 2 C2 controller for persistent tasking. This sophisticated approach allows attackers to blend into routine developer workflows, increasing the likelihood of code execution and potentially compromising high-value assets such as source code, environment secrets, and access to build or cloud resources.

This analysis examines the evolution of Remcos, a Remote Access Trojan that has become a significant global threat. Originally a commercial tool, Remcos now provides attackers with capabilities such as credential theft, keylogging, screen capture, and webcam control. The latest variant exhibits real-time command-and-control communication, enabling immediate surveillance. The malware uses sophisticated techniques like dynamic API resolution, encrypted configurations, and modular plugins to evade detection. It establishes persistence through registry modifications and employs cleanup routines to remove traces of its activity. The report details Remcos' infection vectors, data exfiltration methods, and its network interactions with command-and-control servers.

An analysis of Chinese hosting environments reveals over 18,000 active command-and-control (C2) servers distributed across 48 infrastructure providers. C2 infrastructure dominates malicious activity at 84%, followed by phishing at 13%. China Unicom hosts nearly half of all observed C2 servers, with Alibaba Cloud and Tencent following. A small set of malware families, including Mozi, ARL, and Cobalt Strike, accounts for most C2 activity. The infrastructure supports both cybercrime and state-linked operations, with RATs, cryptominers, and APT tooling coexisting. High-trust networks like China169 Backbone and CERNET are actively exploited. This host-centric approach exposes long-running abuse patterns and infrastructure reuse across campaigns, enabling more resilient threat detection and mitigation strategies.

Lumma Stealer malware has resurged since October 2025, now incorporating adaptive browser fingerprinting to enhance its command-and-control (C&C) operations. It collects detailed system, network, hardware, and browser information via JavaScript payloads and stealthy HTTP communications, enabling it to assess victim environments and evade detection. The malware continues to use process injection and maintains its core C&C communication structure while adding these new evasion and targeting capabilities. This hybrid approach improves operational continuity, targeting precision, and detection avoidance. Although no known exploits are currently reported in the wild, the malware’s stealth and data exfiltration capabilities pose a medium-level threat. European organizations should be aware of this evolving infostealer, especially those with high-value data and browser-based workflows. Mitigation requires advanced endpoint detection, network monitoring for stealthy HTTP traffic, and browser security hardening. Countries with significant digital economies and high adoption of targeted software are at greater risk.
