AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied by updating to the fixed Ubuntu package versions: 1.18.0-6ubuntu14.16, 1.24.0-2ubuntu7.13, 1.28.0-6ubuntu1.8, or 1.28.3-2ubuntu1.6. The vendor advisory recommends a standard system update to apply these fixes. No additional mitigation steps are specified or required beyond applying the official updates.
Description
NGINX Plus and NGINX Open Source contain a vulnerability in the ngx_http_proxy_v2_module and ngx_http_grpc_module when proxying HTTP/2 traffic with specific configurations. A remote unauthenticated attacker can send large headers under certain conditions, potentially causing a heap-based buffer overflow that leads to a worker process restart or code execution on systems with ASLR disabled or bypassed. This vulnerability affects multiple Ubuntu package versions and has been assigned CVE-2026-42055 with a high severity score of 8.1. Fixed versions are available in Ubuntu package updates.
